my self-inflicted panopticon failed.

just got back from huntington beach, cali yesterday. lewis (big bro) flew me up for the weekend for my birthday :) fed me. gave me beer. gave me tequila. bought me coffee every morning. the US open of surfing was going on. was a great time, haha. and a good break from the usual grind. the "grind" being the usual 4 or 5 hours of "work" i do a day here at UH. and..."work" oftentimes being watching things heat up, cool down, or dry. research is frickin' tedious sometimes...but i've been through that before.

either way, i surfed everyday. slept a good amount. ate like a pig. and saw all the surfing, bmx'ing, skating, and motor crossing i wanted to. the surf wasn't all that great (choppy) so the surf competition wasn't all that impressive. rob machado won the whole thing which was cool. apparently it's his third time winning it. bmx/skating was kinda cool but there was nobody there who could pull really cool tricks so it was mostly watching people kill themselves in the "soul bowl", haha. i could never do that shit man. they land on their knees way harder than mine could handle.

the motor cross was badass, though! damn, seeing it on tv really does it no justice, those guys fly HIGH. towards the end there were guys doing some wicked tricks. my favorite still is just a huge tailwhip. there was one guy who would whip his tail so hard he'd be facing backwards by the end of it and still bring it back around. crazy.
lewis was teasing me the whole time 'bout how stoked i'd get over it but whatever, he was stoked too (and you know it, heh heh).

all in all, good quality time with the big bro :) rare these days to get good family time with a brother in cali and a sister in new york but somehow we manage.

aaaaaand now i just have to get everything lined up for the start of school *sigh*. i am kinda looking forward to it, though. got some cool classes comin' up that i'm pretty interested in so that's cool. surf's up in the islands so that's REALLY cool. few hours off the plane back here and i was in the water again at wailupe/secrets. decent session. fickle waves but got a few amazing waves...all it takes for me is one memorable wave in a session, and i had a few yesterday even with the fickle waves. and the water was warm like a bathtub. SO nice.

alright that's enough blabbering. more later!
